Abstract
This study aims to understand the characteristics of Archigram’s architecture, through the contents of “Living City Exhibition(1963)” and their little magazine “Archigram 3: Towards Throwaway Architecture(1963)”, which provided an opportunity for them to establish their specific architectural direction at their early career. In 1963 Archigram, published their first little magazine in 1961, had changed its character from an underground magazine publisher to a group of architects who worked through a medium, their own magazine. Living City was an exhibition that presented the architectural characteristics of the Archigram as a media architecture. Like a telegram, the exhibition was designed to immediately convey to the public the appearance of social phenomena observed and interpreted by members of the Achigram. In Achigram 3, published during the exhibition, Archigram showed architectural systems and processes to operate in the 'Living City'. Although the architecture of the Archigram was an image that was shown to the public through magazines, their architecture was able to be realistic because the architectural image of the Archigram went beyond just being science-fictional or futuristic and showed the system and process for it to work.
