Abstract
As a meta-research, this study uses the methodology of content analysis to identify trends by synthesizing the results of studies of colors in the past. In addition, based on the analysis results, it was attempted to find and propose more creative and challenging themes, materials, and methodologies for color research. In this study, 441 studies of colors to be analyzed were finally selected by searching the National Assembly Electronic Library. After the analysis items were set into seven categories: research purpose, research subject, publication year, research material, research design, analysis method, and traditional color material setting. As a result, the proportion of exploratory studies was high in previous studies that dealt with color as a material. Studies of colors have decreased somewhat since 2019 compared to 2018, but studies have been steadily accumulating from 2019 to 2021 without significant increase or decrease. In the classification by research subject, the analysis of human perception of color increased somewhat in later years compared to 2018. In addition, as for color research, there were twice as many studies using objects/structures as research subjects than those with humans, the proportion of case studies was excessively high, and there were very few papers dealing with traditional colors. Based on the above results, this study made four suggestions, such as descriptive research and explanatory research extension proposals, as suggestions for academic and practical reference in order to lead the activation and development of studies of colors in the future.
