- Abstract
- As the beginning of the modernization of furniture design, it refers to No. 14 using solid bentwood by the 19th century furniture designer Michael Thonet. No.14 has gained a lot of popularity around the world for its cheap and organic curves. In the 20th century, the x-leg, y-leg, and knee bending techniques were developed based on Alvar Aalto's laminate bentwood.
And by Charles Eames and Arne Jacobsen, the wooden furniture developed rapidly. Jerry Osgood produced the bending technique as an art furniture with a high degree of perfection. In the 21st century, Matthias Pliessnig worked on furniture design in organic form using IT technology. Edward Johnson used the woodwork technique to draw patterns on the furniture surfaces. The development of bending techniques led to many changes and diversification in the structure and form of furniture design as well as the reduction of materials and the simplicity of the manufacturing process.
