- Abstract
- Combination of passive and active unit cell are used to improve aperture efficiency of reconfigurable reflectarray antenna (RRA). It is known that the aperture efficiency is correlated with the phase efficiency. By employing a passive unit cell, the three-state is realized to increase the phase efficiency for phase difference of 120°. The passive unit cell is designed using a rectangular patch connected to the ground plane through via holes to achieve the phase of the reflection coefficient of 180°. The one-bit active unit cell is optimally designed by the genetic algorithm (GA) to satisfy the phases of 60° and 300° for on and off states of the PIN diode, respectively. It is confirmed that the aperture efficiency of the three-states RRA is 56% higher than that of the one-bit RRA for (θ φ)=(0°, 0°) at 10.1 GHz. © 2022 IEEE.
