Abstract
The image qualities and legibility of digital signages depend on the changes in viewing conditions and the contrast and spatial frequency of images recognized by the eyes of moving viewers. Therefore, experiments are carried out for the changes of recognized contrast and spatial frequency by viewers with changing ambient light, viewing distance, and monitor brightness, And the results are analyzed with various human visual system theories and contrast sensitivity functions. In addition, the optimal spatial frequency range is found based on the time the moving viewers recognize their images. Based on these findings, efficient optimal operating methodologies of digital signage operations and the content design methodologies are presented using image contrast and spatial frequency, suitable for various viewing conditions, digital signage installation environments, and moving viewers.
