- Abstract
- This study discusses problems of the current Malay-Indonesian Loanword Hangeulization System and provides an alternative to it. The Malay-Indonesian Loanword Hangeulization System is presented in terms of alphabet rather than phoneme in the Malay-Indonesian and Korean alphabet correspondence table, with some missing phonemes and alphabets. In addition, the environments where alphabets occur are divided into no more than two positions, which is not sufficient for a proper description of hangeulization. The table does not provide a necessary and sufficient number of examples for a comprehensive correspondence between phonemes and alphabets across all positions. This study discusses the influence of indigenous and foreign languages and changes in the writing system of the Malay-Indonesian language as well. This study, considering the problems discussed, provides an alternative version of the Malay-Indonesian Loanword Hangeulization System. This study is significant in that it contributes to improving the quality of Korean people's everyday language life and suggests the direction of language policy.
