- Abstract
- To improve irradiation time and the effectiveness photo-alignment, dual decomposition mechanisms including photo and thermal were investigated. For more aggressive photo-decomposition of the polymer, the photoreactions employing triplet mechanism and the double fragmentation reactions were carried out. The polymer was synthesized from terephthalaldehyde followed by the condensation reaction with 1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylic anhydride. The reactive part of the polymer(1) was oxime ester, which is labile to photo-irradiation and high temperature. The polymer(1) was mixed with photo-inert polyimide with various ratio. The polymer synthesis was analyzed using the Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and GPC, H-1-NMR spectra and etc. We obtained the polar dichroic ratios and evaluated alignment characteristics of liquid crystal employing polymer(1) as a photo-reactive moiety.
