- Abstract
- The goal of architectural education is to prepare students to be architects, who are not only building designers, but also planners, advisors, managers, and builders. However, 5-year architectural education programs in Korea overly emphasize “design” education. The role of an architect not only requires design skills, but management skills such as administration, communication, leadership, etc. Also, managing an office would require systematic knowledge in organization, marketing, strategies, and finance, etc. Based on these aspects, architectural education should equip students with precise occupational views and abilities as managers and planners. Such architectural management program can be achieved by the following actions: First, Educators trained in Business administration applied to architecture must be cultivated. Second, an architect's vocational ethic, occupational view, and humanity development must be put into the contents of the education. Third, management cases related to architectural issues must be developed. Fourth, management education subjects must be systematically integrated into the current 5 years education curriculums
