- Abstract
- Modern university libraries have been changed with the different needs of users caused by changes in social and informational environments. The libraries were only required to collect and save the information. However, over the existing roles those have been widely changed to provide opportunities to have unlimited access to the information and to make, edit, and output the information through the Internet. In addition, social and cultural places where users can do collaboration activities have been added. This study investigated an aspect of the change of university library spaces which have been changed. We formulated a system of spatial composition for modern university libraries on the basis of Donald Beagle's Information Commons. Researches include 12 domestic universities and 10 foreign universities among the universities built since 2000. We categorized the space organization of the university libraries according to the newly founded space composition system for modern university libraries. We formulated new types with the space ratio of the three Common Space(Analogue Commons, Digital Commons, Community Commons) and the floor area ratio. Furthermore, we schematized the Space Connection for each unit space of the Common Space and classified the types by graphic working according to the Quiet Level of the unit space.
Conclusively, this study drew conclusions about the type and feature of the modern university libraries.
