Abstract
In this paper, we study the procedure to jointly determine the amount of products manufactured and the amount of products remanufactured in a hybrid manufacturing/remanufacturing system when the condition of the used products returned varies widely and uncertainly. We assume that remanufacturing cost is a linear function of condition and derive the expected total cost of this situation as a function of manufactured quantity and remanufactured quantity. We derive the optimal solution that minimizes the total expected cost under the assumption of uniformly distributed demand. The sensitivity of the optimal values of the decision variables with respect to the remanufacturing cost components is also investigated.
