- Abstract
- The importance of 3D CAD modeling has been increasing rapidly as the demand for 3D CAD models has expanded as a result of the advent of 4th industrial revolution technologies like digital twin and 3D printing. To meet the demand, educational institutes such as universities are offering lectures on 3D CAD modeling. Despite the importance of such education, the grading of 3D CAD models is currently performed manually by lecturers. The manual grading is time-consuming and inaccurate, and it could also lead to an issue with the fairness of the grading. In this study, we develop an automatic grading system for 3D CAD modeling education in mechanical engineering to address these issues. The system evaluates the shape and non-shape information of 3D CAD models. Different shapes are compared based on global and local aspects of the shapes based on features acquired from point clouds and images. The non-shape evaluation is based on the design history. Through this, the proposed system is expected to contribute to the improvement of efficiency and fairness for 3D CAD model grading.
