- Abstract
- Purpose This study empirically analyzes the relationship between innovation orientation in supply chain and operational efficiency from cognitive gap perspective.
Methods Innovation orientation and operational efficiency measures are collected on a seven-point scale. In particular, innovation orientation that consists of three dimensions: organization, exploration, and exploitation is answered from two perspectives: (1) Responders’ direct evaluation on major suppliers’ innovation orientation; (2) Responders’ recognition on how major suppliers evaluate their own innovation orientation. By applying classification tree method, several interactive effects of cognitive gap are found.
Results By comparing the tree splits of the two perspectives, we found that similar innovation orientation dimensions are important for production cost, final product quality, and overall customer satisfaction, whereas some differences exist in the composition of major innovation orientation dimensions for logistical cost and order fulfillment.
Conclusion The research reveals several lessons that might reduce cognitive gap between corporations and their suppliers in supply chains and thus improve operational efficiency.
