- Abstract
- In the present study, triallyl isocyanurate (TAIC) was used for a multi-functional monomer, which can play a role in cross-linking PLA molecules. Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) pellets containing 3.3 wt% TAIC were prepared by means of twin screw extrusion processing. Various electron beam intensities in the range of 0 to 400 kGy were irradiated to the PLA films, respectively. The thermal properties of PLA films strongly depended on the electron beam absorption dose. The study revealed that the TAIC content of 3.3 wt% and the electron beam irradiation of 70-100 kGy were effective for cross-linking PLA films. Under the TAIC and electron beam conditions, the gel fraction, glass transition temperature, crystallization temperature, thermo-dimensional stability of PLA films were significantly increased, compared to neat PLA film. The results were agreed with each other.
