Abstract

Previously, in several papers, the economic order quantity(EOQ) formulas for the items with imperfect quality have been derived under several different situations. Maddah and Jaber[2008. Economic ordering quantity model for items with imperfect quality: Revisited. International Journal of Production Economics 112, 808-815] derived precise expressions for the expected profit per unit time and optimal order quantity under random yield where each order contains a random fraction of imperfect quality items with a known probability distribution. This paper extends Maddah and Jaber's work for the case where items are manufactured rather than procured. The analysis shows that our model is a generalization of the models in current literatures. Numerical analysis shows that our model results in better performance than Maddah and Jaber's in case of finite production rate.
