Abstract
In order to promote the efficiency and development of 2PL and 3PL, cases of foreign and logistics companies in South Korea were compared and analyzed, and policy implications and plans for the improvement of the logistics industry were suggested in search of improvements in the current system. Design/Methodology/Approach As for the research method, in-depth face-to-face interviews were conducted for executive-level employees working at 2PL and 3PL companies and reporters who has been working for a magazine specializing in logistics for more than 10 years, has professional insights into the overall situation. In addition, 2PL and 3PL companies were analyzed using both SWOT analysis and multiple-comparison case study. Findings Four improvement measures were proposed for the development of 2PL and 3PL. In order to improve 2PL and 3PL in South Korea, the following improvements must be made: the excellent logistics company certification system, the formation of a cooperative relationship between the logistics company and the shipper, the government’s reorganization of the system for standardization of logistics, the introduction of tax credit for long-term contracts. Research Implications This study presents the results of thinking about the ways to grow together both 2PL and 3PL in Korea. Although existing literature has tended to analyze 2PL and 3PL, respectively, or empirical research based on theoretical questionnaires, this study attempted to present a suggestions to improve common problems by integrating them.
