Abstract
Purpose – The international logistics market is showing steady growth due to the acceleration of companies entering the overseas market and the transfer of production bases to reduce costs. The purpose of this study is to find ways to create global competitiveness by comparing the global logistics companies DHL and Kuehne + Nagel with Hyundai Glovis, a leading domestic logistics company. The purpose of this study is to examine key characteristics of project logistics, identify cases of global companies, find improvement points in fostering the project logistics industry, and suggest ways to revitalize them. Design/methodology/approach–It is understood that the multi-case comparison study analyzes several cases based on an analysis tool capable of specific comparison, unlike a single case based on a general story, to grasp a certain level of importance. This study adopted the strength- weakness-opportunity-threat (SWOT), which is the most widely used in this multi-case comparison. Findings– The findings of this study are as follows. First, in order to revitalize the logistics of the project, it is urgent to secure professional personnel. Second, the advantages of 2PL logistics should be maximized. Third, it is necessary to expand the logistics network. Fourth, logistics companies must increase in size through M&A. Fifth, it is necessary to improve logistics technology. Research implications or Originality– This study benchmarked the management strategy of overseas logistics companies and suggested a way to revitalize the domestic project logistics business. In addition, through the interviews with experts who participated directly in project logistics, the implications that can be reflected in reality were drawn.
