- Abstract
- This research is performed to analyze research trend of women’s leisure from 2005 to the present, and find future directions of research on women’s leisure based on the analysis. For the analysis method, inductive contents analysis was used in that it suggests framework arising from reviewing theses subject to analysis and grasping their main themes. To achieve this, a total of 109 theses were reviewed, and results obtained from them were eventually analyzed based on 5 analysis items such as research announcement, analysis subject, research variable, research content and journal distribution. Results derived from research are as follows. First, research that considered women’s life cycle and lifestyle was not done despite the fact that research on women’s leisure in South Korea had been consistently conducted. Second, notwithstanding research on women’s leisure that has been done aiming for a variety of women ranging from adult women, middle aged women, migrant women, elderly women and women participating in sports, research on women’s leisure in their childhood and adolescence was hardly conducted. Third, leisure satisfaction, leisure activity, leisure constraint and education participation motive were used as research variable in research on women’s leisure. Fourth, like the relationship between the majority of variables and verification analysis on influential relationship, research content arising from simple data gathering accounted for the majority of the research. Fifth, the majority of research on women’s leisure was conducted in the physical education studies. Particularly, in leisure recreation journals of the physical education studies, approximately one third of research on women’s leisure was conducted. In conclusion, to the present, the research on women’s leisure has been mostly about a fragmentary-level of it that reveals relationships between major leisure-related variables, rather than in-depth research syntagmatically considering women’s life cycle and lifestyle patterns. Therefore, for the future research on women’s leisure, prerequisites are insight that puts women’s life cycle and lifestyle patterns into consideration and in-depth research on women’s leisure based on the insight.
