Abstract
Investigations were performed on macrobenthic community Jungri mud flats of Garolim Bay, mid-western coast of Korea, from May to August 2015. Macrobenthic fauna consisted of 105 species with 540 individuals and 11.97 gWWt biomass. The number of species and occurring frequency of the major groups were as follows: polychaete species (39%), crustacean species (28%), molluscs species (27%) and other group species (6%). The dominant species were Heteromastus filiformis (Polychaetes), Ilyoplax pingi (Crustacea), Macrophtalmus japonicus (Crustacea). Based on the topography of the bay and sediment types, the study area is easily divided into two zones (in May) and Three zones (in August). The analysis of BPI and ABC-curve were characterized by the occurrence in the upper zone of intertidal areas of high organic pollution. Middle zones (in August) and lower zones (in May) were investigated the disturbance areas. It was evident from these results that species number and diversity have decreased, while dominance and pollution indicator species have increased in upper zones of intertidal areas. From this study, it may be concluded that a variation in the macrobenthic community of the study area was triggered by environmental changes.
