Abstract
Due to its light weight and natural availability, magnesium has been received a great attention. On the other hand, the intrinsic brittleness of magnesium usually restricts its applicability in several fields. These points have motivated both academic and industrial researches towards new strategies for fabricating magnesium-based materials with enhanced properties. In the present review, accordingly, the reason why magnesium shows a brittle fracture during mechanical tests was introduced in detail. The main concepts related to the ductilization of magnesium were explained as well. Finally, the fabrication of magnesium-based materials with simultaneously-improved properties (ductility/strength) was presented. © 2019 Elsevier B.V.
