Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the combination of the noun ending ‘- gi(기)’ and the prefinal ending ‘-eot(었)-’. In this paper, we have divided the use of ‘-eotgi(었기)’ into three parts. ; first we examine the relationship between ‘-eotgi(었기)’ and predicates of upper sentence. Second I explain whether there is a relationship between the ‘-eotgi(었기)’ and korean particles. And then I have discussed whether there is any restriction on predicates in front of ‘-eotgi(었기)’. The predicate of the upper sentence of ‘-eotgi(었기)’ is more likely to be presented as an idiomatic expression with ‘ttaemune(때문에)’. When the predicate of the upper sentence is psychological adjectives, it's possible that the sentence, ‘-eotgi(었기)’ is a correct sentence. And when we have a predicate expressing a hope such as ‘yesanghada(예상하다)’ and a verb that expresses future actions or behaviors, we can see that the prefinal ending ‘-eot(었)-’ are combined with ‘-기’. There are ‘i/ka(이/가)’, ‘eul/leul(을/를)’, ‘-boda(neun)(보다(는))’, ‘-neun(는)’, ‘do(도)’, ‘man(만)’, ‘-na(나)’, ‘-lo(로)’, ‘-e(에)’ in the search that combines with ‘-었기’. And the predicate of the upper sentence on ‘-eotgi(었기)’ is mainly ‘hada(하다)’. Finally most of predicates in front of ‘-eotgi(었기)’ were known to be verbs, and ‘-ida(이다)’ and auxiliary verbs were also observed. However, it was possible to observe the adjective with the predicate in front of the <-eotgi(었기)+particles> but it is characteristic that adjectives did not appear in the idiom of such as psychological adjectives, ‘barada(바라다)’, ‘mangjeongida(망정이다)’, ‘sibsangida(십상이다)’, ‘yesanghada(예상하다)’.
