- Abstract
- The purpose of this study is to identify the mediating effects of emotional regulation on the relationship between athletic stress and cognitive evaluation in college level athletes. 450 sets of questionnaires were distributed to college level soccer, baseball and basketball athletes registered at Korea Sports & Olympic Committee. After excluding 31 responses with problems, 419 responses of athletes were used for the analyses. Statistical techniques used in this study included frequency, exploratory factor, confirmatory factor, reliability, correlation and multiple regression analyses using the SPSS Ver. 23.0 and AMOS 23.0. The results showed that, first, the socio-environmental factor of athletic stress variable positively influenced the challenge factor of cognitive evaluation variable while the athletic support (athletic stress) negatively influenced the challenge factor (cognitive evaluation). To the threat factor of cognitive evaluation, the competition factor had a positive effect while the athletic performance had a negative effects. Secondly, between the athletic stress and cognitive evaluation variables, the emotional regulation showed the mediating effect. Specifically the re-evaluation and the suppression factors of the emotional regulation variable showed the mediating effects on the athletic performance, the athletic support and the competition factors of athletic stress.
