Abstract
The beach safety aspect is getting more relevant, because the drowning risks all over the world are much too high and do not decrease enough. In Korea, most of the beach safety services belong to personnel rescue services. In contrast, Australia and the United Kingdom have developed several practical integrated beach risk management programs and safety systems. ACARA(Australian Coastal Aquatic Risk Assessment) is being developed as a tool to help lifeguard become aware of whether or not beach safety is dangerous for visitor and given a numerical value between 1 and 60, with 60 representing the highest risk and 1 the lowest. For the purposes of this risk assessment the ACARA is used to assign risk scores and rankings. We will implement preferred treatment options or action plan for managing the beach safety. In this study, we have carried out field investigation for beach safety and conducted a beach risk audit on 16 popular beaches along the Korean coast. In addition, we have also conducted their beach risk assessment by using the Australian Coastal Aquatic Risk Assessment tool well-known as typical measures in evaluating the coastal aquatic risk.
