- Abstract
- 본 글은 17세기 近畿南人 학풍 속에서 발견되는 事天學이 어떠한 계기를 통하여 발생하였는가의 문제를 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위해서 16세기 北人 학풍을 살펴보고, 북인의 가문과 학맥을 전승하였던 17세기 근기남인들이 가졌던 학풍의 차이점이 무엇인지를 天에 대한 관점을 통하여 살펴보았다. 16세기 북인 학풍은 天道를 온전히 이해할 수 있다고 파악하였고, 심지어 이를 이용할 수 있다고 생각하였다. 반면에 17세기 근기남인의 事天學은 天이 超越的 神格을 갖추었다고 여겼다. 이렇게 북인 계열 지식인들의 학풍이 변화하게 된 이유에는 두 가지 요인을 들 수 있다. 첫째는 仁祖反正으로 인한 북인의 정치적 몰락이었다. 북인의 정치적 몰락은 그 후예인 근기남인 許穆과 尹鑴로 하여금 새로운 학풍을 모색하도록 하였다. 둘째, 새로운 학풍의 모색과정에서 明나라에서 형성된 종교적 심성을 강조하는 古學의 영향을 받았다. 이 두 가지를 통하여 17세기 근기남인의 사천학은 만들어졌다. 이것은 명나라 고학으로부터 많은 영향을 받았던 일본의 오규 소라이(狄生徂徠)의 사천학과 비교하여 이해할 수 있다.
