Abstract
Nowadays, Direct Current (DC) power system is paid attention by many engineers since it is considered as the solution against many challenges related with energy efficiency. However, many researches and developments are needed in order to realize DC power system. That is because power infrastructure is based on Alternative Current (AC) system so far. Among DC-related technologies, protection technology is significantly considered due to differences between characteristics of AC and DC. That is because this paper represents how line parameters affect to fault characteristics in two ways; theoretical analysis and simulation. Laplace transform is used for a theoretical analysis and Electro-Magnetic Transients Program (EMPT) simulation tool is chosen in order to simulate and verify the results of theoretical analysis. Additionally, the research results in DC system are compared with fault characteristics in AC system.
