Abstract
This study was conducted to investigate the learning competencies of university students according to school year and academic discipline. Learning Competence Test-Cognition, learning Motivation, learning Behavior(LCT-CMB) for college students(Lee et al., 2011) was used for this study. The test was classified with three sub-areas such as cognition, learning motivation and learning behavior. A questionnaire was answered by 1,434 university students in Seoul. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics and ANOVA. It was found that there was a significant difference of learning competencies by their grade and major. First, junior and senior students’ learning competencies were higher than freshman in cognitive and learning behavior. However, little difference was found in learning motivation according to school year. Second, engineering students’ learning competencies were higher than humanity/social science students in higher order thinking, creativity and problem solving process. The learning motivation of humanity/social science students was lower than other students. This study would give some implications to develop educational programs fostering learning competencies for university students according to school year and academic discipline.
