dc.description.abstractIn mobile cloud computing, mobile users access computing resources of remote service provider through wireless interface. Mobile users can offload heavy computation from them to network servers in cloud and enjoy powerful resources of remote service provider. In mobile cloud computing, energy conservation of mobile station (MS) is one of the most important requirements, since ah MS is operated by battery power. Since there is tradeoff between computation offloading and energy conservation, it is essential to efficiently decide whether offloading is required based on the estimated local execution time of a task. In this paper, we consider a smartphone with both WLAN and cellular interfaces and propose an efficient offloading decision scheme for energy conservation. In the proposed scheme, whether offloading is required or not and which wireless interface is more appropriate for offloading are decided based on the estimated local execution time of a task. Performance results show that the proposed offloading scheme can decide offloading and choose an appropriate wireless interface efficiently. © 2013 International Information Institute.-
