Abstract
The purpose of this study aims to investigate the effect of twelve-week core muscle strengthening training on 1RM, flexibility, isokinetic muscle strength and athletic performance of finswimming players. The subjects participated in this study were university and semi-professional finswimming players. They were divided into two groups : experimental and comparative (nine persons each). Core muscle strengthening training in the experimental group was performed four time per week for 12 weeks (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday). The data were analysed by SPSS 12.0 using two-way ANOVA with the repeated measure. The result were as follows; As far as flexibility is concerned, trunk extension significantly increased in both groups(p< .05). As for isokinetic strength, significant interaction effect was found in the %BW of trunk flexor at 30°/sec(p< .01) and trunk extension/flexion ratio(p< .05) of experimental group. The results of present study demonstrate that core muscle strengthening training may indirectly affect the improvement of the exercise performance through increasing the abdominal muscles strength and abs/back ratio of finswimming players.
