Abstract
The purpose of the present essay is to put forward a strategy of biblical interpretation that will embrace as many spectrums as possible as long as they stay faithful to the textaul constraints, in order for the Korean church not to tear apart the Body of Christ sunder the pretense of "right" or "orthodox" biblical interpretation. It is widely agreed that biblical interpreters have imposed such a variety of tasks and expectations upon the Bible from the very beginning that all their diverse and sometimes contradictory approaches seem difficult to categorize under the single rubric of biblical hermeneutics. This paper begins by raising the question, “What kind of biblical hermeneutics can best embrace the full spectrum of needs evinced by such disparate hermeneutical voices(pneumatic-Romantic, feminist, liberational, and cultural interpretation, socio-pragmatic, and so on)? Grappling with the above question, I have tried to envision a future biblical hermeneutics by engaging in the major issues involved in its framing. For this purpose I will discuss three issues: the relation of the interpreter to the text and author, the proper location of biblical hermeneutics, and finally the relation of biblical hermeneutics to systematic theology. My ecclesial biblical hermeneutics is concerned with interpreting the message of the Bible as the Word of God to humanity. Therefore, I posit the Christian church as my interpretive community which guides and impresses me in terms of interpretive interests, purposes, and methods.
