- Abstract
- The novelist, Lee Byung-ju (李炳注), is a stranger in the Korean literary world. However, his literature is considerably significant in that it notices the time which Korean literature has hardly dealt with and shows initiative problem recognition. Therefore, here, this study aims to focus on the matter of how his literature can be positioned in the history of Korean literature and examine the general characteristics of his novels centering around his representative works including 「Novel - Alexandria」.
In particular, Lee Byung-ju is well known not just for his novels but his turbulent life. The raging waves of Korean modern history he felt himself are melted in his novels plainly. Hence, here, this paper focuses on the aspects of realism and historicity when we approach to his literature fully reflecting the actual experiences he had either directly or indirectly. At the same time, it also pays attention to the novelist himself since his novels has a great tendency to enter the world of romanticism and de-historicity escaping from the world of realism and historicity.
