- Abstract
- We report Pd nanoparticles on Vulcan XC-72R (Pd/C) synthesized by means of polyol process in poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) and NO(3)(-) ion. In X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis, the Pd/C consists of polygonal shapes such as dodecahedron, triangular, and hexagonal plates with dominant (1 1 1) plane. In cyclic voltammogram (CV), the polygonal Pd/C shows two reduction peaks as an evidence of dominant (1 1 11 facets of the Pd metallic phase. Furthermore, for methanol electrooxidation, the polygonal Pd/C despite slightly positive onset potential shows improved current-density and less accumulation of residues. Especially, the polygonal Pd/C without any serious agglomeration exhibits an excellent stability in comparison with commercial Pd/C. (C) 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
