Abstract
A new undertaking which revises the classical theism is called "open theism", for it insists on the openness of being of God. This new theism is called "free will theism', for it emphasizes the human free will in order to explain the problem of the evil. Open theism imposes restriction on the sovereign providence and foreknowledge of God, due to viewing future as undecided and emphasizing the openness of future. Open theism insists on open creation instead of closed one, and providence subject to human freedom, by mentioning divine openness. It perverts the images of Christian God, although it provides the postmodern human with the sympathetic view of God. It neglects the holiness of God, denounces the divine foreknowledge, restricts the sovereignty of God. By it, open theism downgrades the sovereign God into the dimension of creatures. Open theism is a postmodern theism which theologically rationalizes advanced human free will and autonomous process of human behaviors in the new cultural environment of postmodern society. However, German theologians, Moltmann, Jüngel and Thielicke better provide the Christian alternative through their theology of cross than open theism in terms of the problem of evil and suffering.
