- Abstract
- An isotropic fiber web was manufactured from a sheet forming machine using direct spun microfibers. Fiber web was interlaced through a water jet process to bind its constituent fibers. Process variables that affect the physical properties of the nonwoven fabrics were controlled. Optimal processing conditions for the wet-laid are spun-laced nonwovens were as follows : fiber length was 10mm, type of dispersing agent was nonionic surfactant, and concentration of the dispersing agent be 0.3㎖/l. Also spilt type of microfiber was used to make nonwoven fabrics with same operation conditions. Experimental results showed that there were minor differences for the two types of nonwovens in hand values measured by KES-F system. However, tensile and tear strengths of the direct spun nonwovnes were superior to the split ones. Considering the durability, cost, and productivity, direct spun type nonwovens are prospective in furnishing and shoe markets.
