- Abstract
- With the official introduction of the Registered Cultural Properties System in 2001 in Korea, an array of modern architectural buildings are being registered as cultural properties in its early phase of recognition of the historical values of the modern historical built environment. Modern architectural buildings are important and valuable heritages bridging the traditional architectural buildings and contemporary architectural buildings and reflect the overall economical, social and cultural portraits of that time. Reinvestigating them in a new light, granting just and fair values, and preserving and transmitting these modern cultural heritages is a method of preserving the historical and cultural traditions in order to obtain the identity and integrity. The purpose of this research is to investigate and propose the suggestions for resuscitation of Korea's industrial/technological cultural properties through extracting the characteristics of the precedents in Nordrhein-Westfalen Federal, Germany, where, by recycling the industrial facilities and compounds with diversified programs and by granting tax incentives while preserving the modern industrial buildings, allowed formation of new images for Ruhr Industrial Area as an area where both tradition and the modern successfully coexist.
