- Abstract
- In order to investigate the effect of fiber shape and fiber assembly structure on mechanical properties, hand and thermal properties of a woven fabric, various types of non-circular fibers, such as u shaped, △/??, Y/Y and ()/Y yarns, were prepared. The denier of these yarns were kept constant and the number of filaments were varied. To compare the fabric properties more rigorously, the fabrics were woven on the same weaving loom under idential weaving conditions, except changing the weft yarns as mentioned above. To clarify the effect of fiber cross-sectional shape on the fabric handle, KES-FB system was used and the hand values were obtained. The thermal properties of fabrics were measured by means of Thermo LaboII type(KES-F7). The results showed that fabrics made of Y/Y shaped yarns have less bending and shear rigidity values than those of others. For a women's thin dress application, the fabric THV(total hand value) made of Y/Y shaped yarns was higher than the other fabrics made of other types of yarns. The amount of energy dissipated through the fabric made of Y/Y shaped yarn was smaller under dry contact conditions. This offers a warmer contact sensation. It may be due to the fact that the fabrics made of Y/Y shaped yarns have more spaces and thus had a better thermal insulating property.
