Typically, the radar systems are put into the two categories: phased array radar with closely spaced antenna elements, and multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar with widely separated antennas. In this paper, we first review the detection performance of each radar system and investigate the compromised one, so called directional MIMO radar. Then, we also proposed an enhanced MIMO radar system as a special case of directional MIMO radar, where the localization performance is significantly improved, by applying the αβ filter. We also propose a tracking algorithm involved with filtering process. Using numerical simulations, we demonstrate that the proposed scheme can improve the localization performance while reducing the feedback from each receiver. © 2012 IEEE.-
