Faceting transition of a restricted solid-on-solid growth model with a defect site

Abstract

We study a restricted solid-on-solid growth model with a defect in the middle of the substrate. The defect site is selected with a probability P, in comparison with P = I for the other sites. A faceting transition is observed at P-c approximate to 0.87. Below the transition, the strength of the defect is high enough for the surface to become a facet. At P = P, the height difference correlation function C(r) shows a power-law behavior C(r) similar to r(delta) with delta approximate to 2/3. For P > P-c, the defect site distorts the surface weakly without producing any facet surface, so there exists a power-law-shaped surface. Various critical exponents near the faceting transition are also discussed.
