Abstract
This study conducted a questionnaire survey to examine the spatial psychological awareness of users regarding exposed concrete as a finishing material in indoor spaces. The research involved an emotional recognition evaluation to understand the basic recognition of the material and the influence of changes in perception. To conduct this evaluation, the researchers used emotional vocabulary and spatial images extracted from previous research and literature review. They first selected these materials through an expert evaluation with 37 participants, and then used 17 pairs of emotional vocabulary and 4 spatial images in a second evaluation with 118 general public participants. The spatial images were analyzed using a Korean standard color analysis program and L*a*b* analysis was performed to confirm the color arrangement characteristics. The survey participants were compared and analyzed using descriptive statistics and t-test analysis, with the analysis focusing on the spatial images between two groups, Generation Z and other generations, to see if there were any differences in perceptions based on the characteristics of each generation. Finally, this research found that the spatial sensibility perception of exposed concrete finishing materials varied depending on the form of the exposed concrete and the combination of finishing materials used. In particular, wood finishing materials and combinations showed a difference in spatial emotional vocabulary compared to other spaces. The study concludes that space should be communicated from various aspects with the diversity of preferences and choices of space users, but it has limitations in proving the correlation between exposed concrete and the characteristics of the main consumption class as shown by generational change.
