Abstract
The purpose of this study is to identify the characteristics of Korean educational videos preferred by learners on YouTube. In this study, the format and content characteristics of educational videos produced by TTMIK were examined and statistically verified whether there was a difference in learner responses. As a result of the study, it was confirmed that the educational videos were mainly focused on ‘vocabulary/expression’ and ‘grammar’ in terms of content, and focused on speaking and listening education in terms of language functions. Moreover, videos that can introduce learning strategies or build rapport to interact with learners have been actively produced. As a result of examining the formal aspect of contents, the most common content is a 7-minute recorded video in which one teacher appears and explains Korean vocabulary or expressions in English, with animation effects and English subtitles to help understand the content. Among the videos produced for educational purposes, the learner’s response to the listening test was the most positive, and the more teachers participated, the more likely the learner would leave a comment. The results of this paper provide implications on how public channels such as King Sejong Institute Foundation can create educational contents.
