Abstract
This study proposes a novel interpretation of urban transition by analyzing the interrelation between physical and socio-economic data as potential resources suggesting embedded complexity in urban functionality. In doing so, the study aims to derive a spontaneous evolutionary pattern of urban transition by conducting numerical analysis on selected urban indicators using data from Manhattan, New York City. First, this study investigates characteristics of the legal and academic each viewpoints through the theoretical discussion of differences between them with respect to urban indicators that interpret urban phenomena as the initial research phase. Then in the main analysis, the paper analyzes the correlation between physical and socio-economic changes for the targeted area based on collected local data. The results of this study provide an applicable data-based empirical methodology that is differentiated from traditional theory-based study in urban-related studies and that will be utilized as a basis of studies on urban changes in the future. © Research India Publications.
