Abstract
With advances in digital technologies, our environment is being transformed into a programmable environment that enables users to directly control physical and digital properties. Approaches for co-designing are important in programmable environments nowadays. The objective of this research was to propose and develop a kinetic media skin that could support programmable environments. It consisted of kinetic media skin modules. For this study, we explored new directions and approaches for kinetic media skins and developed suitable algorithms for a kinetic media skin module. In order to prove the validity of these new approaches, we developed 70 kinetic media skin modules and a mobile application for displaying and controlling aesthetic motion patterns on the modules. Constructing kinetic media skins of choice with these kinetic media skin modules and controlling them with a mobile application will provide users a rich experience. © 2016 American Scientific Publishers.
