Abstract
This study aimed to study the effects of participation levels of youth activities -- disciplinary activities, exchange activities, and cultural activities -- on career decision-making of middle- and high-school students and categorized the decision-making orientation into two: self-directed and adult-dependent. It used data from the Korea Welfare Panel Study. Main results are as follows. First, the levels of adult-dependent attitudes and participation of disciplinary activities decreased from middle-school period to high-school period. Second, positive effects of cultural activity on self-directed attitudes were found both middle-school and high-school periods and the participation in cultural activities lowered the levels of adult-dependent attitudes. Third, all types of youth activities did not have significant effects on adult-dependent attitudes. Fourth, while participation in disciplinary activities lowered adult-oriented attitudes in high-school period, participation in exchange activities heightened them. Based on the these findings, this study suggested approaches to promote career decision-making of adolescents and directions for future research.
This research intends to improve the method of allocating crime prevention facilities in a residential district. Authors tried to calculate running speed of female youth as a means to measure distance to reach crime prevention facilities. In order to overcome conventional method of two dimensional buffer analysis, authors suggested new method of buffer analysis by considering gradient and refraction. Buffer areas for both conventional and new approach are compared after constructing GIS model of the site in Yeomri-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul. The result shows that buffer area of crime prevention facilities drawn from conventional method (i.e. not considering gradient and refraction) covers 74.7%, whereas the area drawn from improved method (i.e. considering gradient and refraction) covers only 38.4% of the road within the site. The result indicates that conventional method of allocating crime prevention facilities does not guarantee safety of female youth in a steepy and bended alley. Therefore, when providing design guidelines for crime prevention facilities, it is necessary to apply the improved method considering gradient and refraction of the road.
