행정학 연구에서 구조방정식모형 활용: 문제점 검토와 제언

Abstract

구조방정식모형은 행정학과 정책학 연구에서 핵심적인 통계분석 기법의 하나로 자리 잡았다. 그럼에도 불구하고 구조방정식모형이 행정학의 어떤 연구 분야에서 어떻게 활용되고 있으며, 방법론적 쟁점들은 무엇이며, 또한 어떻게 분석결과가 보고되고 있는지에 대한 종합적이고 심층적인 검토는 이루어지지 못하였다. 이러한 상황에서 본 연구는 행정학 분야에서 지금까지 게재된 구조방정식모형 활용 논문들을 방법론 및 결과 보고 측면에서 비판적으로 검토하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 한국행정학보, 한국정책학회보, 정책분석평가학회보, 행정논총, 한국행정연구, 한국사회와 행정연구 등 6개 주요 행정학 및 정책학 분야 학술지들에 2014년까지 게재된 241편의 구조방정식모형 적용 논문들을 모두 분석하였다. 본 연구는 분석결과를 토대로 행정학 분야에서 구조방정식모형의 적절한 사용을 위한 제언을 하였다.

In public administration research in Korea, structural equation modeling (SEM) has become one of the most powerful quantitative techniques to examine structural relationships among constructs. However, a critical assessment of the technique has not been made up to the present regarding how SEM is used in each research area, how methodological issues are addressed, and how SEMis reported in the article. To fill this gap, this study compared the use of SEM in 241 public administration articles in six major journals from 1990 to 2014. Drawing on the results, this study makes important suggestions for the proper use of SEM in public administration.
