- Abstract
Almost everyday, people face decision problems in living their lives. The analytic hierarchy process (AHP), among others, is well-known to be a useful tool for resolving these problems. In this paper, we present how to make a decision when the input parameters in AHP are given in the form of interval ratios. Specifically, we present a method to find extreme points while previous studies are classified largely into three types, (1) assuming a typical distribution of interval data, (2) using the concept of dominance structures, and (3) solving goal programming problems. The identified extreme points of interval ratios consequently help to compute the local (approximate) priorities based on the least square method (LSM) and the rank order centroid (ROC). The former seeks to identify a priority vector by minimizing distances between adjacent extreme points while the latter averages the extreme points coordinate-wisely. In the meantime, we show how to estimate priorities via LSM without solving a nonlinear programming problem. Finally, we compare the priorities from LSM and ROC in view of three criteria including minimal variability, maximum entropy, and to see their features. From these comparisons, we find that LSM is placed between others’ in view of three criteria, which leads a conclusion that LSM can be used as a compromised weighting vector accordingly.
