서울시 소재 사립대학 재한 외국인 유학생의 학업적응과 학업적 도움추구에 미치는 영향에 관한 경로모델검증

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 우리나라에 거주하는 재한 외국인 유학생 대학학업적응의 영향요인을 살펴보는 것이다. 2012년 6월과 9월에 서울시 소재 4년제 대학에 재학 중인 재한 유학생 117명에게 설문을 실시하여 수집한 자료는 SPSS WIN 20.0과 SPSS AMOS 20.0을 이용하여 빈도, 백분율, 평균, 표준편차, 상관관계 그리고 경로분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과 한국 문화와 관련한 인터넷활용수준, 문화접변수준, 사회적 자본, 온라인 활용수업 선호도는 재한 유학생들의 대학학업적응 수준을 예측하는 중요한 요소로 밝혀졌다. 나아가 대학학업적응수준은 현재는 물론 향후 성공적인 학업적응을 위한 오프라인 커뮤니티에서의 학업적 도움추구와 같은 자원의 축적에도 긍정적인 예측변인으로 작용하여 선순환 기제를 형성하는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 반면에 인터넷을 통한 고국의 가족과 친구와의 의사소통수준은 학업적응에는 유의한 영향력을 보이지 않았다. 그밖에도 온라인을 통한 도움 그리고 이클라스 활용의 선호수준은 현실에서의 도움이라는 자원의 축적에 직접적인 영향을 미쳤고, 문화접변, 인터넷활용 수준 등은 간접적인 효과를 미치고 있었다. 이를 바탕으로 본 연구는 재한 유학생의 성공적인 대학학업적응 모색을 위해 대학당국, 학계, 정부차원의 지원이 필수적임을 제언하였다.

The purposes of this study were to examine the dynamic processes of the university-academic adjustment and seeking help from the real-life (off-line) communities among international students in Korea. Survey data was drawn from randomly selected 117 international students in June and September 2012 who were enrolled at the leading private universities in Seoul. The data were analyzed with SPSS and AMOS to produce frequencies, mean values with s.d., the correlation matrix among the testing variables, and the path analysis. The suggested conceptual model fit well with the collected data set. In the model, the levels of internet utilization (to learn about Korea), acculturation, social capital and e-class preferences significantly predicted international students’ academic success. Also, in the model, the academic success significantly predicted seeking help behaviors from the real world (off-line communities) which could be a von-adjustment mechanism in university adjustment. Also, help from the on-line community and e-class preferences had direct effects on the seeking help from the real world whereas acculturation and levels of internet utilization had indirect effects on the seeking help behaviors among the international students in Korea. Based on these results, the authors of this study suggested some implications for the academic administrators and policies in higher education.
