한국 중등학생의 행복도 및 진로 인식 분석 연구

Abstract

박근혜 정부는 ‘일자리 중심의 창조경제’라는 국정 목표와 ‘행복교육’이라는 교육 슬로건을 내걸고 다양한 교육정책을 추진 중이다. 우리나라 중등학생들이 국제적으로 학업성취도는 높지만 경쟁위주의 풍토에서 창의성이나 행복도가 낮고, 학습의 내용도 미래 꿈이나 진로와 괴리가 있다는 문제는 오래 전부터 제기되어 왔으나 최근 더욱 주목받고 있다. 이에, 학생들의 행복도를 높이고 진로 교육을 강화하는 정책이 효과성을 발휘하기 위해서는 정책의 궁극적 수혜자인 중등학생을 대상으로 실태를 면밀하게 진단하는 연구가 필요하다. 이러한 문제인식에서, 본 연구는 중등학생의 행복도와 진로 인식에 대한 수준과 배경변인(성별, 학교급)에 따른 차이를 실증적으로 분석하는 데 목적을 두었다. 연구 목적을 달성하기 위해 한국교육개발원에서 『한국의 교육지표·지수 개발 연구(Ⅱ)』의 일환으로 산출한 데이터를 활용하여 기술통계방법과 t검증 방법으로 중등학생의 인식 수준 정도와 차이를 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 중등학생의 행복도는 보통 이상 수준으로 아주 낮지는 않았지만 자신이 꿈꾸는 삶과는 괴리가 큰 것으로 밝혀졌고, 여학생과 고등학생의 행복도가 더 낮았다. 진로 인식 역시 보통 이상의 수준으로 낮은 편은 아니었으나 학생들의 직업의 중요성이나 원하는 직업 선택에 대한 관심이 직업을 준비하는 행동으로 이어지지는 못하는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 특히, 고등학생에 비해 중학생의 진로 인식이 더 낮은 것으로 밝혀졌다. 이상의 내용을 토대로 한국 중등학생의 행복도 증진과 진로 교육 내실화를 위한 정책적 시사점을 도출하여 제시하였다.

Policy formulation and implementation related to students happiness and career guidance are gaining national attention, since President Park’s government was launched in 2013. In order for such policies as ‘free learning semester’ and ‘physical education’ to be successful, it is important to identify key target groups. Recognizing the importance of this matter, this paper seeks to analyze the perception of Korean secondary school students on happiness and career guidance to reveal the differences of sub-groups. Two research questions are posed. First, what is the level of happiness perceived by secondary school students and do their perception levels differ based on their background variables? Second, what is the level of career guidance perceived by secondary school students and do their perception levels differ based on their background variables? Using the data collected by the Korean Educational Development Institute, we conducted descriptive statistics and t-test. The results of analysis are as below. First, the level of secondary students’ perception on their happiness is moderately higher than average. However, the happiness level of female students, high school students and students enrolling in vocational schools was lower than their counterpart. Second, students did recognize the importance of career education; however, their preparation behavior was far from satisfactory, especially among middle school students. Based on the results of the study, we draw some policy implications to strengthen education for happiness and career guidance.
