뉴스 미디어 레퍼토리에 따른 후기 청소년의 정치적 시민성 차이에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 후기 청소년의 뉴스 미디어 이용과 정치적 시민성(정치지식, 정치사회적 관심, 정치사회적 참여) 간의 관계를 살펴보았다. 특히 미디어 융합 환경에서 다중 미디어 이용자로서 후기 청소년들은 어떤 뉴스 미디어 레퍼토리를 구성하고 있는지 그 유형을 파악하고, 미디어 레퍼토리 유형별 이용자 집단 간 시민성의 차이를 변량분석을 통해 검증하였다. 대학 재학 중인 후기 청소년 271명의 설문 자료를 분석한 결과, 그들의 미디어 레퍼토리는 플랫폼에 따라 <뉴스저이용집단>, <전통미디어 이용집단>, <온라인뉴스 이용집단> 순으로 나타났고, 뉴스주제별로는 <연성뉴스 이용집단>, <뉴스저이용집단>, <경성/연성뉴스 이용집단> 순으로 나타났다. 이는 후기 청소년들은 뉴스미디어 저이용자로서 연성뉴스를 중심으로 뉴스를 소비하고 있음을 보여준다. 전통미디어 이용집단과 온라인미디어 이용집단 간 정치지식에는 차이가 없었으나, 전통미디어 이용집단이 온라인미디어 이용집단보다 정치적․사회적 관심이 더 많은 것으로 나타났다. 또한 경성/연성뉴스 모두를 소비하는 이용집단이 다른 집단에 비해 인지적, 태도적, 행위적 시민성이 모두 높은 것으로 나타났다. 전반적으로 후기 청소년들의 시민성 수준은 낮았으며, 그들의 시민성 수준은 뉴스플랫폼보다 뉴스주제 선택에 따른 레퍼토리 유형에 따라 더 큰 차이를 보였다. 본 연구는 미디어 융합 환경에서 후기 청소년들의 뉴스 미디어 레퍼토리를 살펴봄으로써 뉴스 이용과 그들의 시민성 간의 관계를 밝혀보고자 하였다는 데 그 의의가 있으며, 후기 청소년을 대상으로 하는 시민성 교육의 필요성을 시사한다.

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between news consumption and citizenship in post-adolescence. Data was collected from surveys of post-adolescents aged from 19 to 25 (N=271). First, the type of news media repertoire that post-adolescent had access to were identified. Cluster analysis identified three groups, <light users>, <mass media users>, and <online news users> by media platforms, and three groups <light users>, <soft news users>, and <soft and hard news users>. Second, the differences in post-adolescents’ citizenship by the type of news media repertoire were examined. Overall, the difference in political knowledge, political interests, and participation between <mass media users> and <online news users> was not significant. However, the difference between <soft and hard news users>, and <light users> or <soft news users> was obvious. These findings suggested that the effects of a media repertoire, rather than those of a single media, should be considered as being of more importance.
