한국 동화의 드라마화 가능성 연구 : 한정기의 『플루토 비밀결사대』를 중심으로

Abstract

2000년대 들어서면서부터 서양의 아동문학들, 즉 고전으로 읽히던 동화 원작이 애니메이션, TV드라마, 영화화 되고 있다. 이와 같은 현상은 아동문학이 새롭게 재탄생됨과 동시에 재조명 받을 수 있는 기회가 되었다. 본고는 아동문학콘텐츠의 시대를 맞아 우리 동화의 영상화 가능성을 짚어보고자 한다. 2011년 EBS에서 제작된 <TV로 보는 원작동화>에서 우리 동화 원작이 영상콘텐츠화 되었을 경우의 가능성을 확인할 수 있었다. 원작 동화의 스토리텔링의 장점을 살려 제작된 어린이 드라마는 아이들에게 동화 원작의 교육적인 측면과 흥미를 부각시켰다. 한정기 원작의 『플루토 비밀결사대』는 탐정동화 시리즈물로 장편 어린이 드라마 제작의 첫 출발이 된 작품이다. 대중들에게 사랑을 받았던 황선미의 『마당을 나온 암탉』이 극장용 애니메이션으로 제작된 것이나, 김려령의 청소년소설 『완득이』,『우아한 거짓말』등이 영화로 콘텐츠 개발된 것과는 확연한 차이가 있다. 원작 동화가 단편 드라마가 아닌, 장편의 16부작 어린이 미니시리즈로 제작되었다는 점이다. 이것은 우리 원작 동화의 스토리텔링의 힘을 보여주는 예라고 할 수 있다. 그동안 고전을 중심으로만 이뤄졌던 영상콘텐츠 작업에 한정기의 『플루토 비밀결사대』시리즈는 세 가지 측면에서 연구할 가치가 있다. 첫째 시리즈물로써 서사적 상상력이 무궁무진하다는 점, 둘째 애니메이션이나 영화화 된 작품은 있으나 순수 우리 아동문학이 TV 드라마로 제작되었다는 점이다. 앞서 EBS에서 제작된 <TV로 보는 원작동화>라는 어린이 드라마가 있지만, 드라마 <플루토 비밀결사대>는 장편동화의 시리즈물이라는 점에서 의미가 남다르다 하겠다. 마지막으로 셋째 아동문학을 원작으로 한 작품을 TV 드라마, 혹은 영상매체로 각색하였을 때의 가능성과 한계를 되짚어 볼 필요가 있다. 또한, 그동안 동화를 원작으로 한 애니메이션이나 극장 영화는 유용한 학습 보조도구로 활용하려는 것이 주된 목적이었다면 드라마 <플루토 비밀결사대>는 학습 보조도구로써가 아니라, 순수 어린이 성장드라마라는 점에서 주목할 만하다. 무엇보다 어린이 드라마로 첫 선을 보였던 <TV로 보는 원작동화>에서 단편 드라마로 출발했던 동화『플루토 비밀결사대』가 장편 드라마로 재해석 되었다는 점은 큰 의미를 갖는다. 어린이가 주체가 되는 원작과 어린이 드라마가 오늘날 사회상(뉴스에서 다루는 살인, 아동 유괴, 보험사기 등)을 고스란히 담고 있다는 점도 주목할 만하다. 일반 성인 대상 소설들을 원작으로 하여 영화와 드라마 콘텐츠가 개발되고 있는 현 시점에서 어린이를 대상으로 한, 어린이들을 위한 16부작 드라마의 탄생은 우리 동화 원작이 갖는 스토리텔링의 힘을 증명하였다고 본다. EBS <플루토 비밀결사대>의 활약은 동화 원작의 어린이 성장드라마라는 성과와 더불어, 아동문학과 영상콘텐츠의 결합으로 상호간 시너지 효과가 확장된 결과라 할 수 있다.

From 2000, western children’s literatures, in other words, original fairy stories which are classic are re-made into animations, TV dramas, movies. These phenomena give opportunities that children’s literatures were reborn and resurfaced. This study tries to examine possibility to make out children’s stories into video contents in the age of children’s literature contents. <Original Children’s stories in TV> which is made by EBS in 2011 can show the possibility to make Korean original children’s stories into video contents. It attracted children’s attention to original children’s stories that only have paid attention to school lives, TV, computer games. And image media evokes originals of children’s stories so that it made a result of educational effects and interest for children. 『Pluto Secret Association』 which original story was by Han Hung Gi is a series of detective story and the beginning to make children’s feature length drama. It has distinctive difference compared to 『Leafie, a Han into the Wild』of Hwang Sun Mi which were popular and made into animation movie and 『Wan-Deuk』, 『Elegant Lie』of Kim Ryeo Ryoung which were made into movies. The difference is that it was not made a short drama, but it was made a form of full-length 16 episodes children’s miniseries. This can be an example to show power of storytelling in Korean original children’s stories. Series of Han Jung Gi’s 『Pluto Secret Association』 has 3 kinds of research values in video contents works which only have focused on classics. First, it has endless narrative imaginations as a series; second, it is the first TV drama from original Korean children’s literature though there are some animations or movies from children’s literature. There was a children’s drama, <Original Children’s stories in TV> made by EBS before, <Pluto Secret Association> means a lot to be a series of a feature-length story. Last, there is a necessity to examine possibilities and limitations when children’s literatures are remade into TV drama or video contents. And the purpose of animations and movies from children’s stories are to use them as assistanttools in education, but the purpose of 『Pluto Secret Association』 is not to use it as a assistant tool in education but it is remarkable that it is a pure children’s growth drama. Above all, 『Pluto Secret Association』 was interpreted into feature-length drama from a episode of <Original Children’s stories in TV> which was the first children’s drama. And it is worthy of note that children’s drama with children in main character reflects every social image in today (murders in news, kidnapping of children, insurance fraud and etc). The birth of 16 episode dramas of children and for children proved the power of storytelling which Korean children’s stories have at this point that novels are developed into movies and drama contents for adults. Success of <Pluto Secret Association> is a productive performance of children’s growth drama from children’s story, and the result of synergy combining children’s literature and video contents.
