장용학 초기 소설에 나타난 실존주의적 인식구조 연구

Abstract

본고는 장용학의 초기 소설을 중심으로 실존주의의 영향과 문학적 수용 양상을 분석하여 작가의 인식구조와 미학적 구성 원리의 형성 과정 및 기능을 밝히고, 실존주의적 사유가 전쟁의 경험을 통해 시대 인식과 세계관으로 변화하는 과정을 조명하여 장용학 소설의 가치를 새롭게 구명하려 하였다. 자의식적 실존의식에서 반항적 실존의식을 거쳐 종말론적 실존의식으로 전개된 실존주의의 수용 양태는 실존주의를 통해 시대 인식 및 소설형식을 성숙하게 전개시킨 장용학 문학의 질적 발전 과정과 상응한다. 특히 실존주의적 사유가 질적 변화를 하는 과정에서 형성된 장용학 문학의 종말론적 의식구조 혹은 묵시록적 전망은 소설의 미적 형식과 전후사회의 정신적 패러다임을 중개하며, 전후세대 지식인 집단의 시대 인식 및 세계관을 표현한다. 장용학 소설은 추상화된 관념의 세계를 표상함에도 불구하고 전쟁 체험 세대의 인식구조를 실존주의적 사유 방식을 통해 문학형식으로 치환하여 보여주었다. 여기에 장용학 소설의 문학사적 가치와 의미가 있다고 하겠다. 퇴폐의 극단까지 온 재난의 세계를 종식시키고 훼손당한 인간의 실존을 찾을 수 있는 초월적 세계의 도래를 소망하는 정신의 지향성이 장용학만의 것은 아니었기 때문이다.

This thesis tries to bring light on, at first, the process of the formation and the function of the epistemological structure and the principle of the aesthetic composition by analyzing the influence and the aspect of the reception in the existentialism being centred around Chang Yong-hak's early stages novel, and then investigate newly the value of Chang's novel by observing the changing process from the existentialistic thought to the recognition of the era and the outlook on the world through the experience of the war. The aspect of the existentialism reception that is unfolded from 'the existential self consciousness' through 'the rebellious consciousness of existence' to 'the eschatological consciousness of existence', correspondents to the process of production in Chang's literature that develops the recognition of the era and the formal structure of the novel. Specially 'the eschatological consciousness structure' or 'the apocalyptic prospect' in Chang's literature, intermediates between the aesthetic form of the novel and the paradigm of the post-war society and represents the view of the era and the outlook on the world among the intellectual group of the post-war generation. Like this Chang's novel gets the meaning in the history of the literature and aesthetic value in the way that it shows the transposition from the cognitive structure of the generation of the war experience through the methods of existentialistic thought to the device of the literature.
