- Abstract
The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of the sensorimotor-centered visual art activity on 3-year-old children’s drawing representation, language, and attention span ability. The subjects used in this study were 44 young children who attended a kindergarten in K city. The mean age of the subjects was 39.4 months. The experimental group participated in the sensorimotor centered visual art activity while the comparison group participated in the teacher-child discussion centered visual art activity. ‘Drawing Representation Inventory’, ‘Verbal Language Inventory for Children’ and ‘Korean version of ADHD Rating Scales (K-ARS)’ were used to collect data and ANCOVA was used to analyze the data.
The results revealed statistically significant differences between the post-test scores of the experimental and comparison group. The scores of the experimental group in the children’s drawing representation ability, language ability and attention span ability are significantly higher than the scores of the comparison group. In conclusion, the results of this study suggest that the sensorimotor centered visual art activity that were developed in this study are effective in promoting 3-year-old children’s drawing representation ability, language ability and attention span ability.
