문래동 예술촌의 공공예술 실천에 대한 연구: 아도르노의 미메시스(Mimesis)와 벤야민의 ‘적극적 동반자’ 개념을 중심으로

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 아도르노의 미메시스와 벤야민의 ‘적극적 동반자’ 개념을 통해 문래동 예술촌의 공공예술실천에 대해 분석하고, 새로운 장르의 공공예술 가능성을 모색하는 데 있다. 이를 위해 아도르노의 미메시스론과문화산업 비판론, 벤야민의 미학을 중심으로 이론적 논의를 행하고 공공예술의 개념과 현실 맥락적 특징들을성찰적으로 검토했다. 이를 바탕으로 예술가 네트워크뿐만 아니라, 지역주민 그리고 철공소 노동자 네트워크에서새로운 공공예술의 실현 가능성을 발견하고, 그들의 적극적인 개입과 참여를 통한 새로운 공공예술 실천 사례를심층적으로 분석했다. 이 연구의 의의는 문래동으로 상징되는 공공예술 영역에서 각각의 관계 맺기가 공공예술실천을 어떻게 가능하게 하는지 분석하고, 나아가 새로운 장르의 공공예술 실천의 가능성을 모색하는 데 있다.

The purpose of this study is to investigate public art in Mullae art Village based on Adorno’sMimesis and explore a wide range of possibilities of new genre of public art. This study foundout the new possibility of not only artist network, but also networks of local villagers and ironfactory workers, and considered in-depth analysis of new genre public art in Mullae art villagefocusing on their active participations in art programs. By analyzing the artists’ stories throughinterviews, low-cost rental accommodation brought a influx of artists into the village, and theyformed their artist networks working by themselves. At this point, this could be judged a criticalphenomenon in accordance with Adorno’s mimesis. However, by external pressures such asgovernment policies for setting up Mullae Art factory or downtown redevelopment, artists soughtindependent role in Mullae-dong and doing active public art programs grounded on mimesis. Artistswere seeking a way to cope with the economy mechanism doing new genre of public art basedon mimesis, and found out the possibility of formation of relationships with local residents andiron factory workers. This study was seemed to suggest the direction of new genre of public artthrough Mullae art village case, and considers new political measure plans for culture and art policy.
